Are all Mineral Powders Created Equal?

New Motives Custom Mineral Powders and ingredients.
Mineral Powders have taken the cosmetics industry by storm. Mineral powders are
beneficial for the skin, look natural, and can be used as virtually any cosmetic—
translucent powders, powder foundations, eye shadows, blushers, concealers,
eyeliners, brow powders, and bronzers. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons prefer
mineral powder cosmetics for their patients for post-procedure and post-surgery
wear because they are so gentle on the skin. Women love mineral powders for their
many outstanding qualities and functions, most importantly, how beautiful they make them look!
What Are Mineral Powders? Titanium dioxide, a critical ingredient in mineral powders, can be micronized (milled into a fine powder) which makes the mineral powder easier to apply and provides a more natural look.

Following are mineral powder ingredients and their functions. Most of the ingredients listed are commonly found in loose mineral powders, while a few are less common.
Pressed mineral powders will contain additional ingredients that are used to bind the powder.

Titanium Dioxide -Derived from Titanium. It has the most tinting power of (yellow) white pigments. Also recognized as one of the most effective ingredients for sun protection. Our Titanium Dioxide is triple milled.

Micronized Titanium Dioxide – finely milled Titanium Dioxide Provides the same benefits of Titanium Dioxide but makes mineral powder finer and easier to apply. Our triple milled Titanium Dioxide makes our mineral powder easier to apply and gives it a finer, more luxurious texture. It “floats” cross the skin giving the makeup a “lighter” look.

Zinc Oxide – Provides opacity. It also believed to aid in healing skin disorders. Zinc oxide also provides sun protection. This is a basic ingredient in our mineral powder.

Mica – Provides texture and light diffusion (luminescence) and lip. Our shimmers contain mica. We have shimmers and matte powders so that clients can choose whether or not they want luminescence.

Bismuth Ox chloride- Provides luminescence and is sometimes referred to as “synthetic pearl”. May cause allergic reactions to skin. Motives  DOES NOT USE Bismuth Ox chloride in mineral powders since it provides shine and is a possible skin irritant.

Sericite- A derivative of silica that provides silky texture and light diffusing qualities. The addition of Sericite changes the molecular weight of the powder, allowing it to lay lightly on the skin. Our mineral powder contain Sericite to enhance the silkiness and luxuriousness of the minerals, Sericite also provides light diffusing properties without creating shine.

Kaolin- French Clay help absord oil. Motives Minerals contain French Clay for natural oil absorption.

Color Change for a Season

As the cool weather begins to set in, it's a sign that we too must change our colors. Yes, it is time to lose the spray tans and stay "current" with the season. Here are a few things to keep in mind as we transition into a different time of year. As the warm weather fades...so must our skin tone to reflect the current time. For those of us who "love" the spray tans...our tans we may feel washed out at first.

When there is more color in the skin tone there is less color needed on our faces. So, when we have less pigment in our skin tone, more color needs to be added to enhance our features to keep from looking too washed out through the cooler. For instance, more colors on the eyes that compliment the eye color is ideal for cooler weather. If you have brown eyes and typically wear neutrals, try using gold and green. Think of green as a new neutral, because it is. Look outside at the foliage everywhere and see that there is not a color that doesn't look fabulous next to any shade of green.

Great colors
for brown and green eyes are....vintage glam & chic pressed eye shadows. Garden green eye pencil.

Blue eyes...vintage glam, cappuccino and midnight blue pressed eye shadows with electric blue eye or steel pencil. Add "so peachy" blush to spice up your cheeks and top it off with a warm amber lip plumper for a smooth hydrated finish. And yes...you can still use a little bronzer to add dimension for your face, adding it only around the hairline sides of nose and cheek bones and neck. This will keep you in a healthy believable color if applied moderately, not to make you look like you have been in a dust storm.

Skincare challenges

It is challenging to figure out what to use on your skin with so many products
on the market. I offer a variety of products from many different manufacturers from
organic, acne, preventative anti-aging, renewal & reversal products.

It all depends on your age, your diet, your skins texure and what results you are after and of course your budget. You can certainly combine different brands, but you need to know the ingredients and what they do so you are not repeating the same steps or getting too much of one thing. We often think if something is good, than more is better.

If you are looking for solutions and want a place to start, here is a great new helpful
tool that will guide you through some suggestions based on your answers.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.
